2008 Hearts & Hands Challenge

Fabric packets are now available for the 2008 Hearts & Hands Quilt Guild Challenge. First ($100), Second ($75), and Third ($50) prizes will be awarded. Challenge entries will be displayed during the 25th Annual Quilt Show at the West Overton Museums (Scottdale, PA), scheduled for June 2008.

Cost is $17.99 for the packet that features 1/2 yard plus three fat quarters of fabric in shades of blue, yellow and purple.

Participants can add up to two additional fabrics but the majority of challenge fabric should be used on the front of the quilt. Challenge entries can be 36" or smaller and must include a 2-inch sleeve on the back. The quilter's name should also be on the back of the quilt, but temporarily covered for the judging process.

A limited number of Challenge Packets are available at Kate & Becca's Quilt Patch, Etc. (Scottdale, PA), or e-mail heartsandhandsguild@gmail.com for more information.

Finished challenge projects must be submitted according to the entry process, fee, and deadlines established by the West Overton Museums (http://www.westovertonmuseum.org/). A May 2008 submission deadline is expected, but an exact date is not available at this writing.

2007 Hearts & Hands Quilt Challenge

The Hearts & Hands Quilt Guild organized its first "public" quilt challenge as part of the 2007 West Overton Museum Quilt Show.

Guild members Marsha Callaro and Vicki Ulery selected fabric and prepared challenge packets that were purchased by interested Guild members. Butterflies and bumble bees danced across wall hangings in shades of blue, purple, and yellow displayed as part of the show. Styles ranged from traditional pieced to three-dimensional elements.

Prizes were awarded in several categories:

Best of Challenge -- Fay Pritts
Viewer's Choice -- Fay Pritts

Most Original Design -- Pat Peden

Most Whimsical -- Priscilla Richardson

Most Creative Use of Fabric -- Kay Bigley

Judges Choice -- Marsha Callaro
